Exploring Natural China by Heather Angel

Monday 20th May 2013

Last night we had an exceptional evening in the company of Heather Angel (part of the Wisbech Arts Festival). Heather Angel With an audience of over 50 people Heather managed to entertain us from start to finish. Heather is a natural speaker and an awesome photograher. She has been to China 32 times and showed a very small selection of her images from all the regions she has visited. Her images were absolutely stunning and her commentary matched the images. She also brought along a number of her books and were available for a much reducted price, judging by the queue at halftime she should have brought along more, all books purchased were signed by Heather. Heather also showed us her techiques for photo stacking images which I am sure we will all go away and try at some point We would like to thank Peterborough PS for the loan of their digital projector for the evening and to all members of Wisbech Camera Club for making this one of the best evenings of the winter programme. The Vice President of Peterborough PS gave a vote of thanks for Heather.........A brilliant evening enjoyed by all....Happy Clicking

Print of the Year

Monday 29th April 2013

Well what an exciting evening we all had last night. Judge David Hennessey was faced with the task of commenting on over 100 prints, which he managed to do with concise and very imformative comments on all the images in the 7 different set subjects, choosing a winner in each section. He then had the unenviable job of finally picking an overall winner.........Cue drum role.....Congratulations David Hodgson with his superb image "Shade of India". Thanks were given to David Hennessey for his fantastic judging by chairman John Wilcox, we would also like to thank Maz for deputising for Roger and displaying the prints. Also big congratulation to all our new exhibitors for getting involved, we very much look forward to seeing more of the same next year. Well next week is a bank holiday so there will not be a meeting but see you all in 2 weeks at our presentation evening until then.........Happy Clicking

Steven Le Prevost

Monday 4th March 2013

Last night we had an extraordinary evening in the company of Steven Le Prevost, who gave a print talk of his superb pictures. The event was very well attended by members of both Wisbech Camera Club and Kings Lynn Camera Club and guests. Steven managed to talk his way through over 100 of his prints, explaing how the image was created both in camera and in photoshop. I think everyone present went away with an idea of how his images were created and am sure some are trying as we speak. Many thanks for all members of Wisbech Camera Club who made this event one of the best this season.............Here's to many more.......Happy Clicking

Christmas Social Evening

Monday 17th December 2012

Marking the halfway point of the winter programme the Christmas social was a resounding success.  Twenty eight boisterous members and guests were well entertained by  Judy and David who had done sterling work in preparing a quiz which only proved our limited knowledge of photography and local landmarks correct answers to the latter creating some amusing comments and banter.

As usual at this annual event there was an abundance of excellent refreshments brought along by the members.

Members also provide stacks of booze and chocolates for the raffle which raised over £40

All in all a splendid evening to kick off the festive season.....Happy Clicking

Selections In Photoshop

Monday 10th December 2012

Last night we all delved into the art of making selections in photoshop. We were shown tutorial videos by 2 renown photoshop experts. One thing I think we all learnt is their is not a wrong or right way to make selections just use the one that works for you. Roger presented a short video on the exciting sport of Hovercraft Racing. Don't forget next week is The Christmas Social Evening, so an invitation is extended to all members, old and new with their partners,  to join us. Have a great Christmas......Happy Clicking

An Introduction To Portrait Photography

Monday 3rd December 2012

Last's night talk was part of the Wisbech Arts Festival and subsequently a free event open to the public. Despite Rogers advertising of the event, on a number of social media platforms the attendance of the the general public was, to say the least disappointing, our members though turned out in force. The evening kicked of with Alan explaining the techiques of basic lighting, including short lighting, broad lighting, split lighting, Rembrant lighting and Butterfly lighting, all these are the basis to work from for great portrait lighting. He further went on to explan what is quality of light and how to achieve it. The evening continued with Roger talking about and how to use a lastolite hi-lite for High Key portraits. We were lucky enough to have a lovely young lady, Hannah, to help with the explaination of the above.

The second half was a hands on practical using the techiques explained earlier. Hannah was our model for the evening and was great fun and very photogenic. Hopefully some great shot were taken and we have the chance to see some in the up and coming competition. The evening ended with a session, that could have been title Beauty and the Beasts (thank you to David and Simon for posing)

We would all like to thank Alan and Roger for supplying the equipment for the evening and a very big thank you to Hannah for being such fun even with at least 10 cameras aimed at her at one time, some nearer than others (no names mentioned..............Paul)

Until next week.....Happy Clicking

2nd League Competitions

Monday 26th November 2012

Well Monday night again.....We had judge Ray Kimberley visit the club to give his comments on our images. He travelled all the way from Cambridge to be with us and although having directions had trouble finding us.....until, that is, he ask a lady walking down a road dressed in her dressing gown......the mind boogles only in Wisbech and arrived with plenty of time to spare. His comments were knowledgeable and very informative and I think everyone present took something home from the evening. Paul Ashton gave a vote of thanks to Ray. Congratulation to David, Judy, Mike, Bob & Paul whose images scored top marks of 10. A huge thanks yet again to Roger and Nick for their expert presentation skills. Until next week.....Happy Clicking

Table Top Photography

Monday 19th November 2012

Well Monday's do seem to come around quicker and quicker.......Well it was great to see so many members turn out for this practical evening, cameras in hand   and good news 2 more prospective new member's so welcome to Dennis & Melvin. Two lighting set up were used for the evening, both using light tents, one with flash lights, one with continuous lighting. A number of props were photographed including flower displays, brandy glasses (empty I might add), bottles of liqueur, even Mike's half full pint of beer, much to his disgust as he wanted to finish it. Paul supplied his flash guns and trigger and gave expert tuition on how to use them. Hopefully some great shoots were taken and we will see some of them in forthcoming competitions. All in all another successful evening at Wisbech Camera Club.

Pat Goode Memorial Shield

Monday 12th November 2012

Today was the annual Pat Goode Memorial Shield, as normal we had a great selection of images, both print and DPI's, for judge Daphne Hanson to peruse, make comments and award marks. A total of 10 clubs were present battling it out for the top awards.

The first half of the evening was for DPI's, with each club entering 4 images, expertly displayed by Nick Emmerson, with St Ives, Fenland and North Norfolk all scoring 33 points. There was only a 5 point difference between all 10 clubs at the break, so it was anyone compettion to win.

During the break David Watts did an acceptional job selling raffle tickets to all of the 70 plus crowd. A big thank you to members who donated raffle prizes.

Back to the competition, the second half was for prints, again each club entering 4 images with their totals being added to the first half results. The quality and diversity of images was second to none making it a very hard job for Daphne. Roger Rawson and the legendary white gloves displayed the prints. Everyone was jotting down the scores when they were annonced after each image, it was still nip and tuck for the lead.

The results were finally in.............with North Nolfolk gaining the top marks with a totla of 70 1/2 points.

Our president, Simon King, gave a vote of thanks to Daphne for her excellent judging, He also awarded cups to Mike Buxton (Peterborough PS) for the best DPI of the evening for his striking image "Kingfisher Threat Display" and to Roland Riddell for the best print of the evening with his excellent print "Daybreak at Ulleswater" and then to the best club, North Norfolk, he awarded the Pat Goode Memorial Shield.

Another great evening of superb images at Wisbech Camera Club.
